The Good News - Despite massive amounts of liquid precipitation and spring-like temperatures in the upper 40's, the trails in Speculator were in great shape for this past weekend. On Wednesday we repaired the BR-110 and had it ready to groom. John N. hit the trails just before the rain started on Friday and once the rain ended and the temps started to fall, Aaron groomed down the last of the bumps. Within a few hours the temperatures fell and the trails were set. On Saturday we installed the new starter on the BR-60+, checked it out and sent it down to the Tree Farm to groom the trails.
The Bad News - This weekend's grooming took its toll on the equipment. On Sunday morning the ram steer piston shaft on the BR-110 snapped leaving it out of service until a new cylinder can be located. We hope to have the parts by midweek and installed by the weekend. On a worse note, the transmission on the BR-60+ overheated and may have serious damage. The unit is still operational and we will have it flatbeded back to VR for a closer inspection. At this time we can consider it out of service for the balance on the season. Despite the repairs needed to the BR's we are in very good shape and with some new snow this week we should be in great shape, The Skandics will continue to groom as needed and the BR-110 will groom C4 from HM117 to HM108 and side trips to the Tree Farm as needed. Thanks to Aaron, John N., Big Mike and Chunky for grooming this weekend.
